My absolute favorite art book when I was a child. Mark Kistler teaches kids how to draw fun creatures while introducing basic concepts like foreshortening and shading. This leads to a much more satsifying result than many other kids' instructional books, since the target lessons are neither too simple (leaving the child feeling as though they haven't accomplished anything beyond stacking some circles) nor too difficult (leaving the child frustrated because they can't recreate the photo-realistic My absolute favorite art book when I was a child. I still remember and use many of these lessons in my art today. Hurray for Mark Kistler! ...more

This book taught me at a young age how to draw. Kistler covers the principles of perspective, shading, dimension and more in easy-to-understand, fun lessons that I was obsessed with. I credit him and his lessons for my love of drawing.

I loved absolutely drawing from this book as a kid, but picked it up and completely drew through it as an adult. I had so much fun revisiting the process and getting some good practice.

I love this book! I bought it back in elementary school when Mr. Kistler visted and gave a presentation for the whole school. His step-by-step approach makes it easy to learn how to draw.

I was addicted to this guy's show on PBS when I was a kid (in the 80's). I loved to draw then, I love to draw now. I'm a teacher and I keep it in my classroom library and it's ALWAYS checked out. It's one of those books I have to keep track of to make sure it comes back to me. LOVE! I was addicted to this guy's show on PBS when I was a kid (in the 80's). Since 2002, I've used this book to teach art to my own children and to others. I've had nearly 100 students over that time. The methods in this book are simple and the lessons thorough, using animation drawings to teach drawing techniques. I highly recommend it. As an adult I have played and played with this book creating hours of entertainment. Any budding child or teenage artist should find this a treasure trove of fun practice exercises.
A how-to draw book for kids, focusing on a cartoony sytle. Fun, yet using real artist terminology and techniques.
